As my training comes to a close and my homecoming date draws near I find myself thinking about all the reasons why I want to go home. I’ve quickly realized it’s the small things that I’m excited about the most.
While I was at basic all 60 of us girls shared one bathroom with 10 showers. Now the showers had walls but no curtain or door. Just knowing the fact that I’m coming home to my own bathroom and shower is probably one of the most exciting things I’m looking forward to.
Sleep in My Own Bed
We all know one of the biggest things we dread when going on vacation is leaving our beds. I have a full size bed at home. Since being gone I’ve slept on a twin. A TWIN! My body is honestly going to go into shock being able to stretch out for the first time since Christmas.
Drive My Car
Before I left for basic I had to get a new car. The engine went out in my old one so I had no choice but to buy a new vehicle. I miss my car like it’s my own child. I love driving and while being active duty, I am unable to drive. I have not been able to drive since the beginning of October!
I have attended summer camps since I was 5. Usually only a week long. So being gone this many months away from my family has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my almost 20 years. Thankfully I’ve been able to have my phone here at AIT so I’ve had instant contact with my mom. I don’t know what I would have done if I would have had to wait another two months to talk to her.
Technology has been a real blessing to me. FaceTime has saved me from being homesick so much these last two months. I can’t wait to see my family and surprise my siblings. Since being gone I’ve learned that your family are the only people you can really rely on. They are the ones that will ALWAYS be there no matter what. They won’t walk away when things get hard. I’ve been extremely lucky to have a very supportive family. They have stuck by my side through all of this and I’m so thankful.
Being home means I get to see my baby! Hermione is my cat and I’ve had her going on three years now. I’m incredibly thankful to my brother who has been watching her for me while I’ve been gone. Over Christmas I moved Hermione from my brother’s room into my house. This is the first time since I’ve had her that she’s had constant reign over the house and she LOVES it. She is the queen of my barn that’s for sure. I can’t wait for all the cuddles she gives me at night.
