Scotch Eggs

Filed Under: Food Tagged With: recipe, Scotch Eggs

For as long as I can remember I’ve gone to renaissance festivals with my family. One of the great things about festivals is all the food that you can get while there. My favorite food at Scarborough Renaissance Fair is the Scotch Egg. While attending culinary school I finally learned how to make them myself.

What You Need

  1. Mixing Bowl
  2. Deep Pot
  3. Oil (to fry)
  4. Thermometer
  5. Pot of boiling water
  6. Baking Sheet

In school we used a deep fryer but you can use a deep pot of oil to fry them in.

I love to travel for all the different cuisine I can taste. When I am not traveling to new places, I try to visit as many local food festivals and events as possible. I have been an adventurous foodie my whole life. When I was a kid I convinced my mom to let me try escargo during a cruise vacation. She made me eat a full one despite my protest since I ordered it. I was curious about different foods from a very young age.

  2. Divide the sausage mixture into four equal portions. Flatten each portion into thin patties. Dust the eggs with flour and wrap each egg in a portion of the sausage meat.
  3. Bread the sausage-covered eggs using the standard breading procedure.
  4. Deep-fry the eggs 7-8 minutes at 350F or until the sausage meat it fully cooked. They may be finished in the oven if they begin to get too dark in the fryer.
  5. Serve the eggs halved or quartered lengthwise.
