I don’t know what I quite expected before I read the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower but all I know is that I definitely was not expecting how it turned out. I have to admit when I first started reading the book I only got two pages in and stopped reading. I just could not get into it, which sucked because I was looking forward to reading the book so much and then watching the movie. But finally I forced myself to read more and after the 5th page I could not put it down. The book is definitely my favorite book of all time now.
Charlie, the main character, is writing letters to someone he only addresses as “Dear Friend“. In the letters he is telling the person pretty much everything that happens his first year of high school but not just school, he talks about life at home as well. His main focus is his friends though. My favorite line in the book is “He’s a wallflower.” pg 37. It being my favorite line is not just because it ties in with the title it’s because in that moment I think is when Charlie really felt special to someone that was not family. I also think it’s an important stage in his friendship with everyone.
I have not yet seen the movie but I am extra excited to see it because I want to see what is different in from the book.
The Perks of being a Wallflower is number 88 on my book list! Only 12 more books to go before I reach 100!
Full Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book for review purposes. All opinions are 100% mine.
