Girl In Progress

16 May

Girl in Progress is a modern day coming of age story with a twist. The main character is a girl in high school whom’s mother was a teen mom. When she learns about the meaning of a coming of age story in class she decides to make her own timeline so that she can grow up faster and get out of the house to be away from her mom. Her timeline includes doing all the bad things that might happen to a girl, but the difference is she is planning out everything and forcing it to happen.

Girl in Progress, movie, entertainment

The movie is amazing and perfect for a mother and daughter to go see together as a girls night out. My favorite part of the movie is when she starts planning out the timelines of events that she thinks that she has to go through in order to come of age. Girls all around the world can relate to the movie because at some point or another you will find your self in at least one situation that she get herself into.

This movie can open up conversations between mothers and daughters as well as be a learning experience.

Full Disclosure: I was given the chance to screen this movie in advance. All opinions are 100% mine.

Great Military Ball for Junior Cadet Corps

08 May

The Military ball was last Saturday, and it was amazing! I had such a great time with all of my friends and I loved dressing up for the night. The ball was so much fun I even got my JCC instructor Petty Officer Simon to get out on the dance floor and dance with some of us girls! It was a blast! We can’t usually get her to go dance with us so it was cool that she did.

The ball was also great because it is not only dancing. The first two hours of it we eat dinner, have dessert and get to watch all of the COC’s of the attending schools pass down their cords to next year’s COC’s.

I loved my dress that I wore to the ball. It was my dream dress that I was hoping to find. After the ball I got to go and see The Lucky One at the theater, it was a great movie.

JCC Nationals Drill Meet

31 Mar

Today I had my last drill meet with Junior Cadet Corps before moving on to high school next year. It was a really big deal since this was our Nationals. I had such an amazing time. My girls Color Guard team did not end up placing but in the end we tried our best and that is all that counts.

Our Drill Team did place 1st for Inspection and 2nd place in the Performance. Then they placed 1st for scoring the most points over all of the Drill teams. We also got 3rd place out of 21 schools for all of Nationals. That means our drill team, both male and female Color Guard teams scored high enough to accumulate points to rank us in the top three schools.

We were beyond excited, especially since we are a brand new middle school that just opened in August with a fresh team competing against schools from other states such as Kansas, Michigan, etc. that all made it to National’s.  We had our work cut out for us!

Leadership Camp

19 Mar

March 8 through March 11 I got to go to Leadership Camp. I had such an amazing time this year just like last year. I did not end up going horse back riding or paint-balling. It rained on us pretty much the whole time and I didn’t want to do those things and get all muddy.

Even though it rained the whole time it was still a lot of fun. I got to play mini golf which I found entertaining once I learned how to get the ball in the hole. I also got to play on the big pillow which is this giant thing on the ground outside that we got to jump on. It was made out of the same material bounce houses are made out of and we got to play on that in the rain, which was awesome. I also had the chance to play volleyball indoors and play on a bounce house obstacle course, which was exciting because my friends and I raced several times.

One thing that was cool was that every morning we had to clean our cabins and set them up the way Chief Marshall said they had to look. He is in command of all Junior Cadet Corps for FWISD. Each cabin had to be spotless and then we all lined up by our beds and he came in to inspect. The first morning my cabin, the Benbrook girls and G.P. Elder girls, did okay with only a few things that we needed to fix. The next morning Chief inspected when we were all at breakfast. He didn’t tell us who’s cabin was the best until that night at the talent show. Well, out of all the girl cabins Benbrook and Elders cabin was the cleanest one!

The dances were a blast with all of my friends, it was also hilarious to see all the instructors dancing really badly. The night that was the best for me was the last night when we had the talent show and karaoke. There was some pretty funny stuff at the talent show. Some boys from our school even put together a skit and preformed it, but I will say it was not the best. The best was these 6th and 7th graders who put together a comedy ventriloquism act. They had every cadet laughing. I had such a great time at leadership camp and I’m going to miss it a lot.

Summer Teal – Polyvore Fashion

18 Mar

Polyvore is a great website that lets you create fun outfit collages. It lets you plan out your outfit piece by piece and find items that fit your budget. I created my first look with the theme of summer and my main color was teal. The website is really cool and addicting, you could play on it for hours at a time and have tons of outfits!

What I like about the outfit I created is that every item is under $50, so teens can afford the look. The items are versatile so they can be paired with other outfits.  Below the collage there is a picture of each item, if you click on one you will get the price and information about it.  The process to create a Polyvore board is really easy. They even have a how to video on the home page of the website that shows you just what to do.
