I’ve had my cat Hermione for a little more than a year now. It was one of those, I went to the pet store to get dog food and left with a kitten, type things. I’ve always loved cats and we had a few while I was growing up. When I got her, we knew right away that she was probably the “runt” of the litter. She was significantly smaller than her sister.
Hermione and Cooper Meeting for the First Time
For most, it’s not hard to know where I got her name from. I love Harry Potter and I just knew her name had to be Hermione. One of my biggest fears when getting her was introducing her to the family dogs. A Great Dane (Cooper) and a Boxer (Nicki). Now don’t think this is some fairy-tale story like you see on Instagram where the cat and dogs get along, sleeping side-by-side. It’s the complete opposite. We can’t even let them in the same room as each other. Nicki is too dominate and Cooper is just too big.
Cooper’s head is the size of her whole body. Heck, his ears were bigger than her head when I got her!
Hermione’s First Easter
Hermione never really loved getting into boxes like a lot of cats, but on Easter she made sure she sat her butt right into my Easter basket. Loving every minute of it.
My cat, like most I can assume, is spoiled rotten. Whether that means she’s got an endless amount of toys, her own spot to sleep on my bed and my brother’s, or endless amount of love – she’s definitely treated like a queen. One way that me and my mom spoiled her is that we made her a cat teepee for her to sleep in. When I saw pictures of a cat teepee I knew that we had to make one. We love crafting and had so much fun being creative and making this for her. She proved that she was too good for that and it ended up being a place to put her food and water bowl in. Making a cat teepee was super simple and you can make one for your cat or small dog, as well.
- 2 Yards of Fabric
- Jute or String
- Hot Glue Gun
- 4 Thick Wooden Sticks
- 1 Long Thin Wooden Stick
Since we made this for an animal we decided not to cut the four sticks that are used for the base. You need all the height you can get out of them. Making this teepee was for sure a two person job. When you are putting the sticks together you are going to want to make a rectangle at the bottom.
This is where the string comes into play. You are going to use it at the top of the sticks to tie them together. When you start doing this the sticks are going to want to come together at the bottom. So you will want someone at the bottom of it keeping them separated.
To secure it you are going to want to wrap the string between each of the sticks and then secure it with hot glue.
Once that is done it’s time to add the fabric, which is the best part because then you can really see your project being finished. You can choose what ever type of fabric you want. I chose a teal chevron pattern to go with my room’s decor. As you are putting the fabric on you will end up with lots of extra. Just trim the extra and then fold the fabric around the front two sticks and glue it. You are going to want to make sure all the excess fabric is folded and glued to the sticks since you are making this for an animal.
