I love photographing the Drill Team. Each of the girls are beyond photogenic and it is a real delight to watch them perform. Occasionally I’ll setup at the practice for the varsity team and capture them working on their new routines. However, the photos below show the junior varsity performing at the basketball game for senior night and it was stunning.
All of the photos that I took of the drill team were captured using my Canon DSLR with a 2.8 lens. I did not use a flash at either the practice or the performance. However, my settings differed a lot between the two since one was during the day around natural lighting and the other was at night around gym lighting. On average I take about 300 pictures during a performance and around 100 to 150 for practices. I loved taking pictures of the varsity practice because of all the natural light that I was able to work with.
